I got the hull laid, the first level planking and the deck laid and planked years ago, these two pictures are of the ship as I started it this time around.
In the last week or so I have gotten the port side planked about 80%. I had to sort of figure out how to do it "on the job". After trying almost every type of super glue I finally found that the best combination was Weldwood contact cement thinned out with xylene. The thinning makes the glue dry faster and makes it easier to apply.
I just apply the glue with a flat paint brush. Yellow glues have too much water in them and tend to warp the thin veneer. I have found the best way to cut the strips is with a set of precision scissors, I just take a stab at the right angel and then cut it a couple more times until it fits. I tried to measure at the beginning but this seems faster and it really doesn't seem to use that much more wood, yo get pretty good at it. I don't put the glue on the strip until I have the fit right. It normally takes 15 minutes for the Weldwood to dry but with the thinning it is only a few seconds.
